The next next installation of the Local Author Series will be THE LAMY PROJECT performed by members of the La Tienda Creative Writing Workshop under the direction of Sharon Houck Ross.

Come join us for stories set in the old train depot and the Pink Garter Saloon featuring Billy the Kid and Archbishop Lamy, a child ghost, a runaway bride, a restless Harvey girl who rides the rails searching for adventure — and more. Writers reading original short stories will be Sheila Ortega, Maureen O’Brien, Anna Philpot, and Tracey Mitchell. Thursday, September 20 at 6:30 PM in the Performance Space. Open to the public with a suggested donation of $2.00

CHIMPANZEES: spellbinding stories from behind the bars … An Afternoon of Unexpected Biography, Biology and Benevolence

A Sunday afternoon reading and talk about the lives of captive chimpanzees in New Mexico and around the globe Debra Rosenman, author of the forthcoming book The Chimpanzee Chronicles: stories revealing the heartache, grace, and truth about captive chimpanzees presents a preview of her book, along with special guest Laura Bonar, program director of Animal Protection of New Mexico’s Chimps-to-Sanctuary campaign, who will talk about the New Mexico chimpanzees in Alamogordo and how New Mexico’s grassroots efforts to help them has brought the United States closer to ending the use of chimpanzees in research.
