Great Short Films and Saturday Night Salsa

SUMMER SHORTS!!

Thursday, July 11, at 7 p.m. at La Tienda

Reel New Mexico, the state’s only ongoing film series dedicated to showing movies with a New Mexico connection, is excited to celebrate high summer with four short films, each quite different from the others. They will be screened on Thursday, July 11, starting at 7 p.m.

“Underway,” a Western fantasy from Paul Marcus, gives us a mysterious and truly haunting woman, cast out of time and place, who must search for clues about who she is and where she is going. The short comedy “All in a Day’s Work” centers around a hapless guide who keeps trying to corral a group of dazed and enthused tourists exposed for the first time to the wonders of northern New Mexico.

Meow Wolf’s chronicle of their recent exhibit, “Construction and Destruction of ‘The Due Return,'” assumes a sailing ship from another dimension has beached on the sands of Santa Fe, submerging those curious enough to enter it in a rich history from a distant world. Dusty McGowan’s “Mickey” tells the story of a down-on-his-luck boxer who stumbles on a unique opportunity to become an unlikely hero.

The filmmakers will discuss their works after the screenings.

Reel New Mexico presents films with a New Mexico connection on the second Thursday of each month, at 7 p.m. in The Performance Space A contribution of five dollars is suggested at the door
This Saturday night, July 13, the Vista Grande Social Club invites you to another fabulous

Saturday Night Salsa Party

The Performance Space at La Tienda in Eldorado will be transformed into the hottest club in town, with Cuban-style salsa delivered by local favorites
 “Habana Son”
Inspired by the traditional sounds of Cuban street music, Havana Son provides a lively, danceable mix of salsa, merengue and cha cha’s.
Included in the $10 cover is a salsa rueda dance lesson by Carlos Mora from Santa Rueda.
“Rueda”, meaning “wheel”, refers to a group salsa dance which is performed in a circle,
allowing dancers to change partners as the “caller” leads them through a series of moves.  The basic steps are simple,
and the beginner lesson is a great way to introduce new dancers to a basic step and the rhythm of salsa music.
Dance lesson from 8:15 – 9:00

Havana Son starts at 9:00
with beer, wine and food served up by La Plancha restaurant.
